Cooking demo combined with asian grocery tour with Jimmy coming soon....
Many people has approached Jimmy, asking him if he would ever consider doing an asian grocery tour. There are a lot of things in asian groceries which we have not heard of or even seen before let alone knowing what to do with it. After a long hard research, Jimmy has finally made up his mind and will be taking this on!
During this course he will take people around one of the most popular place where Vietnamese does their grocery "Inala." He will explain clearly what some of the different stuff out there and how to cook them. Keep an eye on our web, blogs and facebook page for updates :)

Received another wonderful email from some new visitors who was referred to us by our very lovely customers! Thank you Glen, Pat and Debra :)
What extraordinarily delicious food at Avachat! Ellen and Iain were hugely impressed and we must have looked like a threesome of starving people, the way we devoured the dishes with gusto with endless appreciative grunts and other noises but we didn't care! None of us had eaten a decent meal in days - all just junk or snacks - so the dinner last night was just what we needed. Iain was excited to see they had the genuine Vietnamese drip coffee with condensed milk as he dranks heaps of those on their trip to Vietnam last year - looks pretty good too. My favourites were the Crab Balls and the Prawns on the sugar cane sticks. Wow!

AUSTRALIA DAY THURS 26 JAN - WE ARE OPEN
What is everyone doing on Australia day?! Dine in or Take away at Vietnamese avachat cafe cause we are OPEN!!! NO SURCHARGE!!!
Thirty years after the arrival of the First Fleet, in 1818, the Governor of Australia ordered a 30-gun salute, hosted a dinner ball at Government House and gave government employees a holiday. In the following years, employees of banks and other organizations were also given holidays. In the following decades, horse racing and regattas were popular activities on January 26.
In 1838, Foundation Day was Australia's first public holiday. It was also the occasion of the first public celebrations of the founding of Australia. The shores of Sydney Harbour were crowded and there was a firework display. By 1888, January 26 had become known as 'Anniversary Day' was celebrated in all colonies except Adelaide. In 1888, the centenary of the arrival of the First Fleet was celebrated with ceremonies, exhibitions, banquets, regattas, fireworks and the unveiling of a statue of Queen Victoria.
By 1935, January 26 was known as Australia Day in all states except New South Wales, where it was still called Anniversary Day. In 1938, large scale celebrations were held. These included a re-enactment of the landing of the First Fleet, which did not mention the convict status of many of the passengers on these ships. The re-enactment is included the removal of a group of Aborigines. Shortly before the celebrations, a group of Aboriginal activists arranged a “Day of Mourning”. They used this to campaign for citizenship and equal rights for Aborigines.
From 1946, January 26 was known as Australia Day in all states. However, the public holiday was moved to the Monday nearest to January 26 to create a long weekend. Since 1994, the Australia Day public holiday has been on January 26 in all states and territories.
The anniversary of the first permanent European settlement in Australia is not a cause for celebration for all citizens. Indigenous Australians often feel that the celebrations on Australia Day exclude them and their culture, which was thriving for thousands of years before the arrival of the First Fleet.

Australia day - Background
On January 26, 1788, the First Fleet of 11 ships from Great Britain arrived at Port Jackson, which now forms Sydney Harbour. The First Fleet was led by Captain Arthur Philip. He established the Colony of New South Wales, the first penal colony in Australia. By 1808, January 26 was being celebrated as “First Landing Day” or “Foundation Day” with drinking and merriment.Thirty years after the arrival of the First Fleet, in 1818, the Governor of Australia ordered a 30-gun salute, hosted a dinner ball at Government House and gave government employees a holiday. In the following years, employees of banks and other organizations were also given holidays. In the following decades, horse racing and regattas were popular activities on January 26.

Beautiful gifts
Both Jimmy and I were so thrilled and shocked to see these wonderful flowers and a bottle of wine brought into our cafe/restaurant today by one of our very lovely customer Tarsh Warner.
We've been in business now for just over 3 years and behind all those slaving around for time, endless stressful moments, and countless arguments between Jimmy and I. The one and only thing that kept pushing us to go further in order to accomplish our dream is nothing else but our CUSTOMERS!!!
Honestly to say we have the best customers in the world, whom we've also got really close and became friends. I know i've said thank you soo many times before I just need to say it again, my heart just melts and the sense of happiness just lifted our spirits when things like this happens and it happens very often (just different gifts every time :). It just shows that we've been so blessed and overly spoilt :)
Thank you again soo much guys !!!
1 MAIN IMPROTANT KEY WE'VE LEARNT AND SEEM TO BE ON THE RIGHT TRACK IN THIS JOURNEY IS: NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM, PUT YOUR MIND AT IT AND YOU WILL ACHIEVE! JUST A MATTER OF TIME AND A LITTLE HARD WORK, SO BE PATIENT :)

Going to Vietnam Tips: STREET EATING!!!
If it's your first time, don't do street eating unless your stomach is super strong. One mistake I did :( for one: I know I have bad stomach and to make it worse it was my first time back in 20 years and I went straight into choosing street eating! they smell so good and couldn't stop myself. :(
